Frequently asked questions

Which phone do I install it on?

Install Textino on the phone that holds the SIM and choose “This phone has the SIM”. That phone does the receiving and the sending. On every other device — an iPhone, an iPad, a second Android, or any browser — open Textino and choose to connect to an existing phone.

The pairing code will not connect

Codes are shown on the source phone and expire, so generate a fresh one from its main screen and type it within a few minutes. Check that both devices have a working internet connection. If it still fails, note whether the source phone is on a network that filters traffic, and email us.

Messages stop arriving after a while

This is almost always the source phone's battery optimisation shutting the app down in the background. Open the phone's system settings, find Textino in the battery or app-management section, and set it to unrestricted or “allow background activity”. The app's health-check screen tells you what is currently blocking it.

My reply did not send

Replies are sent by the source phone over your normal mobile network, so that phone needs signal and SIM credit. A reply stays marked as pending until the phone confirms it. On the free plan there is a limit of ten sends a day.

I do not see one-time codes

Codes are detected automatically in most languages and shown as a card at the top of the message. If a code was missed, the full message text is still there. Turning on end-to-end encryption does not affect detection, which happens on your own device.

I paid but the app still shows the free plan

Open the settings screen and use Restore purchases, making sure you are signed in to the store with the account you bought it on. If you used an activation code instead, enter it in the activation field exactly as it was sent to you. If the free plan persists, email us the store receipt or the code, plus the account identifier from your settings screen, and we will fix it.

How do I use an activation code?

Open the settings screen and choose Redeem a code, then type the code exactly as you received it. Lower case, spaces and a missing dash are all accepted. Time from a code is added to whatever you already have.

How do I cancel a subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by the store, not by us. On iOS open Settings > your name > Subscriptions. On Android open the Google Play app and go to Payments and subscriptions > Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; access continues to the end of the period you already paid for. A lifetime purchase and an activation code have nothing to cancel.

What is end-to-end encryption doing?

With it on, message text is encrypted on your source phone using a key that is only ever on your own devices, so our servers hold nothing readable. Translation and summaries are switched off while it is on, because there is nothing for them to read. Devices you connect afterwards need the same key, which the pairing QR code carries.

Deleting your data

Removing the app clears everything stored on that device. To erase the account and its history from our servers as well, open the settings screen and choose Delete account and data — it takes effect immediately. If you no longer have the app, email us from the address associated with your account, or include the account identifier from the settings screen, and we will complete deletion within 30 days.
